PRAYER BULLETIN

Dear Family and Friends,

Our first tour in Rwanda is nearly over. Already, Caleb and Sophia are back in the U.S. visiting grandparents. We leave for furlough on October 2. It has been quite a journey. This month we ask your prayers for the following matters:

  1. Opening of Kigali International Community School: Our community of American missionaries and development workers has been surprised at how well this endeavor has come together in the last few weeks. On Thursday, 14 September we will open. We will start with 5 American teachers, and 35 kids ranging from Pre-School to 11th grade in 5 different classrooms. We will be Kigali’s first international school to begin after a previous one was closed during the war in 1994. We believe this will be a cutting edge development for Rwanda in offering quality Christian education on American curriculum. Our target group is the children of Christian cross-cultural workers, upwardly mobile Rwandans, and diplomats. We believe we have an opportunity to impact the current and future thought leaders of the region through this school. Pray that God will put all the details together. Also, pray that this school will grow in the appropriate way to serve our community. Already it has become apparent that we will need more missionary teachers, to train local teachers, and to develop a school property soon.
  1. Visit of Quail Springs Church of Christ Elders and Property Development: Two of our overseeing elders; Tom and Sue Gooch, an engineer; and Larry Schwab, an architect arrived safely yesterday. They will be with us for 10 days exploring developing property for the future of our church planting movement in Rwanda. May we see the places the Lord intends us to see. May we continue to receive favor in government offices. May we be granted extraordinary wisdom and discernment.
  1. Closure: Its mind boggling all that needs to be done to have closure on this year. We need to help our co-workers process their visas. We need to finalize our church registration with the Ministry of Justice. Dave still has to give a final exam and grade it for 205 university students, and do a graduate course for 90 more students. May our last weeks be one of peace and stability. We desire to return for furlough with a sense of closure.
  1. Furlough: Typically, our furloughs are more expensive and draining of our time and energy than our time in the field. We recognize there will be needs to report and fundraise. May our travels be smooth. May our visits bring encouragement to our supporters and ourselves. May there be an out of the ordinary ease in fundraising. Also, we perceive a need to rest and process. May we have some down time to sit still, think, organize, and see clearer how the Lord intends to use us as we return to Rwanda in early 2007.

Thank you for your support, prayers, and encouragement that sustain our family and ministry. We will look forward to seeing many of you in a few weeks.

Imana Ikurinde (May the Lord Keep All of You),

Dave and Jana
