Quail Springs Missions Report

During the past 12 years, Dave and Jana Jenkins have worked in Kampala, Uganda planting a thriving congregation in the heart of the capital city. This year they are serving as Visiting Missionaries at Oklahoma Christian University and have chosen Quail Springs as their church family. The Jenkins say Quail has been a great place “to rejuvenate our spirits.”

The Jenkins witnessed with horror the 1994 genocide in the neighboring country of Rwanda where almost 1,000,000 people were systematically murdered over a 100 day period. Over the course of their time in Uganda, the Jenkins lives intersected with Rwanda and her people. During the fall, Dave was invited to join a delegation to Rwanda including OC President Dr. Mike O’Neal, Mrs. Nancy O’Neal, and Richard and Pat Lawson – parents of Quail members Rick and Gaylene Lawson. This group was hosted by the Office of the President of Rwanda, the Honorable Paul Kagame.

After returning from this trip, Dave and Jana continued to pray for God’s vision and His will. There is no church of Christ presence in that country. A handful of Rwandese Christians who have moved back home are asking for someone to come help them share the healing, saving message of Jesus in their country.

The Jenkins have committed to move to Kigali, Rwanda and plant a church in that capital city. They have asked the family at Quail Springs to partner with them and serve as their sponsoring congregation. After much prayer and discussion the church leadership has a strong desire to answer this call. In order to provide the necessary resources to do that, we’re asking the Quail family to respond generously to our faith goal of $300,000.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be providing opportunities for Quail members to learn more about this compelling story. One such opportunity is providing Quail members the chance to see the movie Hotel Rwanda that is currently in theaters. This movie depicts the tragic story of Rwanda.
