Into Rwanda

Friday, January 05, 2007

Greetings from Rwanda!

I am writing you all to spread the news about a large need we have here.

I believe that Harding not only prepared us to enter into a classroom
with confidence, but also to look beyond our borders to a world that
we can be involved in. Kyla Kiser and I recently moved to Kigali,
Rwanda to serve as teachers at a brand new International School. The
school is called Kigali International Community School. The school
presently has 44 students from 9 different nationalities. We serve
ages 3-17 years old. Most of our students come from the missionary and
Non-Government Service Organizations community, but we also serve
Rwandans and others who live in Rwanda for various reasons. Though we
are only a few months old, KICS has already been labeled the best
International School in Rwanda by the US Embassy and others. We are
the only school to offer American Curriculum with Western Trained
teachers. Currently, we have over 40 children on the waiting list.

Now, why I am writing you!!

We are currently in the process of moving our school to a new building
that will house many more students and faculty. As we see a massive
expansion in the near future we are in desperate need of qualified
teachers!

Kigali is a beautiful city with amazing people. As you know, Rwanda
faced a terrible Genocide over 10 years ago. As this country
reconciles and develops a new face and name opportunities for serving
the Lord here are endless. KICS is one opportunity available for
teachers!

Life here is not difficult. I don't sleep in a hut, I don't eat
grasshoppers. In fact, Kigali has the best French bakery and Indian
food! I work out in a gym, get $8 massages and have cool friends who
enjoy camping and rafting the Nile with me. There are opporunities to
volunteer in orphanages, play city league sports, teach ESL courses to
aspiring Rwandans, meet incredibly brilliant people serving in
develping work, travel Africa, participate in city and village
ministry, and experience life abroad!

We are looking forward to welcoming Brian and Christy Dolinger
(Harding Alum) as our Principal and co-teachers.

Currently, there are 6 American teachers and we hope to have 4 on the
way. We do, however, need more teachers. This is a plea to you all to
consider allowing God to place you in this country.

If you know of anyone who has interest in working abroad, please pass
this e-mail on!

On a personal note: a Middle School co-teacher would be amazing!!

Check out my website below to learn more about KICS and life in
Africa. Again, any advertising you can do for us would be greatly
appreciated!

Sincerely,
Amanda Moore
