Prayer for Session with President Kagame

Father in heaven, we approach you as the awesome God of all nations, and we come trusting in your love for the people of Rwanda. We thank you that you heard them in their great distress and that even now you are at work to lead them into a hopeful future.

Thank you for raising up leaders such as President and Madame Kagame. Please guide them and other leaders in Rwanda. Give them godly vision and wisdom and courage and deep compassion. Help them to lead and to serve with an unwavering commitment to honor and integrity, that they may serve well and lead well for the sake of their people. Please protect them from ungodly people who would speak against them or try to harm them in any way. We pray that President Kagame and his fellow leaders will walk closely with you so that they may know the fullness of your favor and blessing and that the people of Rwanda may be blessed and encouraged by their leadership.

Father, we also ask for your guidance and blessing to be poured out on your churches in Rwanda. We confess that many who claimed to be followers of Christ were complicit in the genocide of 1994, and we grieve that sin and the damage it did to the cause of Christ, who laid down his life for all the people of Rwanda. We also confess that the United States government and our churches were passive and silent during that great tragedy. Please forgive us for that shameful failure of courage and compassion. Even as we ask, we thank you for your grace and forgiveness and for the opportunity that we have now to make a positive impact in Rwanda. We lift up Dave and Jana, Kyle and Luz, and all their children and Sam and Nancy and all of those who will join them in ministry among the people of Rwanda. Fill them with your Spirit that they may be faithful and true witnesses of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Please give them a ministry of reconciliation and peace that will make a difference in Rwanda for generations to come. Strengthen your servants, O Lord, and build your church in a way that will bring salvation and blessing so that the name of Jesus will be praised among those who have known so much pain and suffering. We thank you in advance for the great works you intend to do to bring salvation and hope and joy to many believers in Rwanda, and we ask for these things in the powerful name of Jesus, Amen.
